Remote Applied AI Engineer (Agentic Workflows)

Description:

• Built In is seeking an experienced Applied AI Engineer to design and develop intelligent, agentic systems that take action on behalf of users.
• The role involves working at the intersection of AI automation and user experience, focusing on building conversational UIs and AI-driven workflows that address real-world problems with minimal user input.
• Responsibilities include architecting and building agentic workflows that interpret intent, planning tasks, and executing operations on behalf of users.
• The engineer will develop and iterate on chat-based user interfaces for rich, dynamic interactions.
• The position requires leveraging LLM platforms (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and orchestration tools like LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or custom frameworks.
• Collaboration with backend engineers, product managers, and designers is essential to integrate conversational features into the platform.
• The engineer will design robust systems for evaluating agent performance, user feedback loops, and improving reliability.
• Staying current with cutting-edge developments in LLM tools, RAG pipelines, memory/state handling, and prompt engineering is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 4+ years of experience in a Data Science, Machine Learning, or Applied AI role.
• A deep experience with Python, LLM APIs, and libraries such as transformers, langchain, and OpenAI is required.
• Experience in building chatbots or conversational UIs, along with a strong understanding of natural language processing, is necessary.
• A solid grasp of SQL, APIs, and structured/semi-structured data is essential.
• Familiarity with vector databases, tool use orchestration, and agent memory design is expected.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, particularly in cross-functional teams, are required.
• Bonus qualifications include experience in reinforcement learning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or AI monitoring systems.
