The Backend Engineer role involves designing and building robust, scalable, and intelligent systems that power Aiwyn's platform.
Responsibilities include tackling challenges in computational expression generation, data modeling, and translating complex tax code into executable software.
Engineers will have autonomy to make key technical decisions and own projects from architecture to deployment.
Challenges include designing a computation engine, creating systems for IRS documentation conversion, engineering a semantic graph of tax concepts, building data pipelines, scaling systems for multi-user interactions, and developing APIs for frontend applications.
The tech stack includes Next.js, Typescript, Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy), Postgres, Google Cloud, and CI/CD.
Requirements:
Proven experience in designing, building, and maintaining complex backend systems, ideally with Python and FastAPI.
Comfort with integrating AI tools into workflows.
Proficiency with databases, preferably PostgreSQL, and data modeling.
Ability to contribute to product ideas and understand product/engineering tradeoffs.
Excellent technical communication skills, especially in a remote, async-first environment.
A pragmatic approach to engineering, valuing shipping and iteration while caring about code quality and thoughtful system design.
Comfort with ambiguity and an instinct for surfacing hidden constraints or opportunities.
Fluency with AI tools like coding assistants is a baseline requirement.
A high level of focus on achieving the right outcomes and comfort in respectfully challenging ideas.
