Substrakt is seeking a Backend Engineer to support arts and cultural organizations in creating exceptional digital experiences.
This is a remote role, allowing candidates to work from anywhere in the UK.
The Backend Engineer will build robust, high-quality backend solutions for clients’ websites and digital products.
Responsibilities include creating backend solutions for new builds, updates, API integrations, and server-side tasks using technologies such as PHP, WordPress, MySQL, SQL, Python, Wagtail, Heroku, and AWS.
The role involves writing clean, efficient, and secure code, testing thoroughly, debugging issues, and optimizing performance.
Collaboration with frontend engineers, designers, and client-facing roles is essential for smooth delivery.
The engineer will take ownership of the technical quality of solutions, contribute to best practices, and participate in solution reviews and code reviews.
Requirements:
Candidates must have strong experience in backend development using modern frameworks and tools such as PHP, Python, WordPress, Wagtail, and Django.
Familiarity with relational databases like MySQL and cloud infrastructure including Heroku and AWS is required.
An understanding of performance optimization, secure coding practices, and scalable system design is necessary.
Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for collaborative work within a multidisciplinary team.
