Keeper Security is seeking an experienced and strategic Backend Software Architect to join their high-performing engineering team.
This is a hands-on, architect-level position focused exclusively on optimizing and scaling backend software systems.
The position is 100% remote, with a hybrid schedule option for candidates in the El Dorado Hills, CA or Chicago, IL metro area.
The role involves developing and executing automated tests, enhancing test suites, and ensuring the quality of web applications.

The Backend Software Architect will lead efforts to re-architect, refine, and evolve core backend services.
The role requires collaboration with cross-functional engineers and stakeholders to ensure high-availability, cloud-native systems meet scale, performance, and security demands.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 8+ years of backend software engineering experience, including 3+ years in an architect or technical lead capacity.
Expert-level proficiency in Java and familiarity with modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot is required.
A strong architectural background in building and scaling distributed systems running in AWS or other public cloud environments is essential.
Deep knowledge of SQL and NoSQL data stores (e.g., MySQL, DynamoDB), including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning is necessary.
Proven success in optimizing backend performance (latency, memory, CPU utilization) at high scale is required.
A solid understanding of cloud-native design, RESTful APIs, multithreading, and service orchestration is needed.
Hands-on experience with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry) and APM profiling is essential.
Strong communication skills and the ability to convey architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences are required.
