Dispel Engineering is responsible for building and maintaining Dispel's products, working closely with Product, Operations, and Project management.
All engineering team members are expected to be honest, competent, and easy to work with, while communicating about plans and execution.
Team members are encouraged to help each other and succeed or fail as a team.
The role involves two main areas: Discovery (50%) and Enabling Others (50%).
In Discovery, the candidate must handle ambiguous instructions, recognize when requirements are lacking, and create technical documentation.
The candidate should balance business and technical complexity, articulate tradeoffs in design decisions, and translate complex business requests into actionable designs.
In Enabling Others, the candidate must achieve clarity for delivery and planning, and recommend improvements to processes, networks, and tech stacks.
Requirements:
The candidate must have practical experience and be willing to engage in hands-on work, as theoretical knowledge alone is insufficient for design.
Demonstrated experience in designing secure, scalable network infrastructures across on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments is required.
Proficiency with routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF), Linux networking, network segmentation, and secure interconnect strategies is necessary.
Strong hands-on experience with network security technologies such as VPNs (IPSec, WireGuard, OpenVPN), SD-WAN, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and zero trust architectures is essential.
The ability to communicate architectural decisions clearly to cross-functional teams while balancing tradeoffs in complexity, cost, and maintainability is required.
Practical experience in implementing high-availability networking strategies and disaster recovery planning is necessary.
A technical degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Networking, or equivalent work experience is required.
The candidate should be a fast learner, valuing the ability to care about their work and learn quickly over formal degrees and certificates.
Strong communication and team culture fit are important, as the candidate will join a collaborative team that encourages new ideas and contributions.
