Doowii is seeking a Data Engineer to join their Engineering team and help architect, build, and scale the data infrastructure that powers their product.
The role involves owning ingestion pipelines (NiFi 2.0 → Kafka → Iceberg → BigQuery/Motherduck) end-to-end.
Responsibilities include designing and maintaining data models (star, wide-table, or Iceberg-native) to support real-time and batch analytics.
The Data Engineer will build robust CI/CD, testing, and observability for data flows using tools like GitHub Actions, dbt tests, OpenMetadata, and Sentry.
The position requires optimizing storage and query performance while keeping infrastructure costs lean.
The Data Engineer will partner with ML, product, and frontend engineers to ship AI-driven features such as LLM text-to-SQL, embeddings, feature stores, and LLM-driven data modeling.
The role also involves championing data quality, governance, RBAC/RLS, and privacy best practices, including FERPA and GDPR.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 3+ years of experience building production data pipelines on GCP, AWS, or Azure, with a preference for GCP.
Hands-on experience with at least two of the following technologies is required: Kafka or Pub/Sub, Apache NiFi, Airflow, Mage.AI, Beam, Spark, Flink, dbt, Iceberg/DuckDB/ClickHouse.
Strong proficiency in SQL and Python is necessary, with Java being a plus.
Experience with schema evolution, CDC, and high-throughput streaming is required.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and container orchestration with K8s or Cloud Run is expected.
Candidates should have a bias for automation, clear documentation, and fast iteration in a startup environment.
Additional experience in EdTech or SaaS analytics, knowledge of LLM evaluation, vector stores, or semantic layers, and experience with MotherDuck or DuckDB is considered a plus.
Benefits:
Doowii offers competitive compensation and a new-hire equity grant.
Employees benefit from an open PTO policy and company holidays.
Medical, dental, and vision benefits are provided for employees and their families.
