Remote Data Scientist

Description:

• Aquabyte is seeking a Data Scientist to help develop and deploy new algorithms to fish farms globally.
• The role involves software and machine learning model development for on-camera and cloud software.
• This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates located in the Eastern Time Zone, particularly in Pennsylvania, the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), GA, or New England.
• Aquabyte's mission is to revolutionize the sustainability and efficiency of aquaculture, promoting healthy production of low carbon protein and mitigating climate change.
• The company focuses on helping salmon farmers understand their fish population through custom underwater cameras, computer vision, and machine learning.
• The product operates at three levels: on-site hardware for image capture, cloud pipelines for data processing, and a user-facing web application.
• The Data Scientist will manage databases and data infrastructure, conduct in-depth data analytics, and build statistical data inference models of biological processes.
• This role is part of the AI team, focusing on understanding the weight and health of individual fish and fish populations.
• The Data Scientist will collaborate closely with engineers who have extensive industry and academic experience.

Requirements:

• A BS/MS in a relevant technical degree is required.
• Candidates must have 3+ years of experience in data science.
• Strong coding ability and a solid grasp of Python and SQL are essential.
• Strong database management skills are required.
• Candidates should possess strong software engineering skills, including knowledge of best practices, testing, and deployment.
• Strong data analytics and modeling skills are necessary.
• Bonus qualifications include familiarity with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and Pandas.
• Experience with Docker and cloud software development (e.g., AWS) is also a plus.
