Description:

  • The Database Administrator (DBA) SRE is part of the Cloud Team, focusing on delivering cloud-related database services and products to internal customers.
  • They provide end-to-end database support for cloud services through monitoring, incident response, and incident resolution for both Public and Private Cloud Platform environments.
  • The DBA SRE supports incidents affecting hosted database workloads, ensuring timely service to the owning teams who are customers of the database platforms.
  • They monitor databases to ensure availability, reliability, security, and performance, responding to incidents and escalating them as necessary to meet SLA requirements.
  • The role involves following incident, change, release, and problem management processes, participating in and driving root cause analysis on incidents to improve stability for all customers.
  • They are experts in observability, responsible for centralized database platform monitoring and alerting tooling, setting direction for greater observability.
  • The DBA SRE seeks to automate repetitive tasks, developing Run books and Playbooks for organizational use.
  • They support development teams in taking on more database operations responsibilities and drive DevOps practices to efficiently scale cloud workloads.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have experience in physical database support for both IaaS and PaaS environments.
  • They should be skilled in database systems administration, including backup and recovery, log examination, access rights maintenance, and database instance version control.
  • Experience in database monitoring, including manual/script technical items and critical database detection and notification, is essential.
  • Candidates must be proficient in database structural maintenance, including space and storage management, object management, and temporary space management.
  • Knowledge of patch management, including identification, testing, packaging, and application of security updates and support packs, is required.
  • Candidates should have engineering support experience, managing and supporting database environments with deep technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • They must be able to advise on best practices for production operation of Database PaaS environments and implement maintenance plans for optimal production configuration.
  • Participation in an on-call rota is expected.
