The Database Consultant / MySQL DBA position is based in Canada, operates on PST work hours, and allows for remote work.

Responsibilities include working closely with customer teams, creating and documenting database standards, optimizing queries, and monitoring database environments.
The consultant will serve as an escalation point for complex troubleshooting and support, using vendor tools and Pythian accelerators for performance tuning.
The position requires diagnosing database performance issues and recommending improvements.
Collaboration with the site reliability engineering team to configure high-availability and disaster recovery solutions is expected.
Cross-functional training in MongoDB, Ansible, and Python is encouraged.
The consultant will also contribute to the open-source community by authoring blog posts, creating knowledge-base articles, and participating in webinars and conferences.
The role has a billable target of 85% and an effective utilization target of 85%, subject to modification by Pythian.
Requirements:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) is required.
Specialized knowledge in installing, configuring, and upgrading MySQL databases is essential, along with debugging skills.
Experience with MongoDB and scripting/automation tools is a significant advantage.
The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and independently with minimal supervision.
Strong adaptability and quick learning abilities are necessary.
A good customer service focus is required to manage customer expectations and priorities.
The candidate should be disciplined in their learning process, self-motivated, and have keen attention to detail.
Good analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with effective organizational skills.
Sound work ethics and very good documentation skills are required.
Familiarity with IT service standards such as ITIL is a plus.
Experience with scripting (bash/python) and Ansible is highly desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
Contribution to Open Source projects relevant to MySQL, MongoDB, or other database software is preferred.
