The Field Service Engineer is responsible for performing warranty repairs and commissioning SMA utility inverters in the field.
Duties include commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, analyzing data, and conducting operation and maintenance activities on utility inverter applications.
The role requires working with high voltage electricity and maintaining excellent customer service while on-site at customer locations.
Responsibilities include commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and analyzing SMA America’s utility inverters through various communication methods and site visits.
The engineer must develop a detailed knowledge of SMA’s utility inverter products and associated accessories.
Maintaining an accurate inventory count of spare parts provided by SMA is required.
The engineer must strive to maintain high customer satisfaction while working to lower field service costs.
Maintenance activities must be performed in accordance with the SMA product maintenance manual and customer contractual obligations.
The position may require working weekends and/or nights on a case-by-case basis.
Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in a technical field is strongly preferred for this position.
At least 3 years of experience in electrical, electronic, and/or network communications is required, with prior experience in the solar energy industry being strongly preferred.
The employee must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
The ability to work well independently and as part of a regional/global team is required.
Knowledge of solar and/or alternative energy markets is preferred.
Knowledge of the National Electric Code is preferred.
The ability to analyze and solve problems effectively is necessary.
The employee must be able to travel frequently and perform various physical activities such as standing, walking, and bending.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are required.
A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.

The pay range for this position is $27.40 - $33.41 annually, depending on experience.
