The Software Development Intern is responsible for building and maintaining the organization's website, which is currently built using WordPress.
The website is 90% complete, and the intern will assist in cleaning up page designs, fixing bugs, completing remaining pages, and tightening up the main website.
The organization seeks a proactive individual who can drive the project to completion, as they require someone with substantial WordPress experience.
The intern will have the opportunity to suggest improvements for the website once the basics are functioning properly.
This position is currently unpaid, with hopes of future funding to support hiring.
The role is remote, requiring effective communication via Zoom and Slack, and the intern must commit to the summer and fall semesters, ending December 15, 2025.
Responsibilities after the website is completed include contributing to building and maintaining a website from scratch, connecting and maintaining a database, implementing new features, documenting the code base, writing clean and maintainable code, and communicating with team leads and management.
Requirements:
The candidate must be a current student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
The intern should be willing to learn general programming principles and specific frameworks and methodologies on the job.
Experience with WordPress, including theme customization, plugin management, and general development, is necessary.
A solid knowledge of PHP, particularly in the context of WordPress development, is required.
The candidate must be able to work collaboratively in a team setting.
The intern should be a responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflicts.
The ability to work remotely and manage their own schedule to meet deadlines is essential.
Attention to detail is required.
Experience with Google Workspace is preferred.
A portfolio of previous work must be submitted to demonstrate skills.
The candidate must be able to attend organization-wide meetings every other week and weekly Tech Department meetings.
Authorization to intern in the U.S. is required.
