Description:

  • The Software Development Intern is responsible for building and maintaining the organization's website, which is currently built using WordPress.
  • The website is 90% complete, and the intern will assist in cleaning up page designs, fixing bugs, completing remaining pages, and tightening up the main website.
  • The organization seeks a proactive individual who can drive the project to completion, as they require someone with substantial WordPress experience.
  • The intern will have the opportunity to suggest improvements for the website once the basics are functioning properly.
  • This position is currently unpaid, with hopes of future funding to support hiring.
  • The role is remote, requiring effective communication via Zoom and Slack, and the intern must commit to the summer and fall semesters, ending December 15, 2025.
  • Responsibilities after the website is completed include contributing to building and maintaining a website from scratch, connecting and maintaining a database, implementing new features, documenting the code base, writing clean and maintainable code, and communicating with team leads and management.

Requirements:

  • The candidate must be a current student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • The intern should be willing to learn general programming principles and specific frameworks and methodologies on the job.
  • Experience with WordPress, including theme customization, plugin management, and general development, is necessary.
  • A solid knowledge of PHP, particularly in the context of WordPress development, is required.
  • The candidate must be able to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • The intern should be a responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflicts.
  • The ability to work remotely and manage their own schedule to meet deadlines is essential.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Experience with Google Workspace is preferred.
  • A portfolio of previous work must be submitted to demonstrate skills.
  • The candidate must be able to attend organization-wide meetings every other week and weekly Tech Department meetings.
  • Authorization to intern in the U.S. is required.
