The Lead Data Engineer position is a remote role based in North America, offered by Verdigris through Jobgether.

Responsibilities include architecting high-performance data pipelines and infrastructure to support analytics, IoT integration, and machine learning.

Accountabilities include designing and owning schema modeling for energy metering and building management data, architecting cost-effective data storage solutions, and managing scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for sensor data.

The candidate will manage projects, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate with technical leads while being available during core working hours (10:00 AMβ5:00 PM PST).
Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in data engineering at scale with large-volume, high-frequency datasets is required.
Expertise in dimensional modeling, OLAP schema design, and columnar data stores such as ClickHouse and Druid is necessary.
Strong SQL skills and experience with Python for pipeline development and data manipulation are essential.
Familiarity with event-driven systems, stream processing tools (Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming), and real-time analytics is required.
Experience with ETL orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster, Airflow), AWS cloud services, and PostgreSQL is needed.
Knowledge of time-series data practices, particularly in IoT or energy-related domains, is a plus.
Bonus points for experience in BMS/HVAC data systems, data observability, cataloging, and MLOps.
Proven leadership skills, team mentorship, and a strong track record of collaborative delivery are essential.
