  • The Staff Software Engineer will join the LC Phone Team, responsible for the core communication platform handling SMS, MMS, Voice Calls, WhatsApp, and RCS messaging.
  • This role involves delivering a reliable, secure, and performant infrastructure that manages millions of time-critical operations, including purchasing phone numbers, delivering SMS, and connecting voice calls.
  • The system currently handles over 100 million events daily across 15+ different services, contributing significantly to HighLevel’s revenue.
  • The Staff Engineer will lead the technical direction of the platform, solve complex distributed system problems, and mentor over 10 engineers across five different product squads.
  • Responsibilities include leading architecture and scaling decisions, improving reliability and performance of APIs, working with various technologies, driving observability and resilience, and ensuring data integrity and compliance.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including designing fault-tolerant systems and working on high-scale platforms.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous job processing is required.
  • Proven experience in optimizing availability, performance, and reliability in real-world systems under load is essential.
  • Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models, particularly with complex transactional data, is necessary.
  • Candidates should have deep knowledge of frontend systems with any frameworks (Angular, VueJS, React) and familiarity with design principles and user experience.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments is required.
  • Knowledge of hallucination mitigation strategies, such as code constraints and test scaffolding, is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills are essential.
  • A pragmatic, hands-on leader who balances long-term vision with iterative execution is sought.
