BlackSky is a real-time intelligence company that operates a space-based intelligence platform providing satellite imagery, automated analytics, and high-frequency monitoring.
The Lead Engineer, Mission Planning will be responsible for authoring new requirements, models, and algorithms while leading other engineers in feature design.
This role includes supervising the introduction of new Mission Planning features based on customer needs and business imperatives.
Responsibilities include managing Jira tickets, engaging in team meetings, and acting as the primary technical leader for new feature requests.
The Lead Engineer will manage technical documentation, drive progress in prototype development, and validate the utility of prototype code.
The position requires understanding customer needs and authoring solutions that integrate into existing software with minimal impact.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software requirements definition, project management, and planning/optimization algorithms.

Candidates are preferred to be near Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA, but remote candidates in certain states may be considered.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent is required.
A minimum of eight years of relevant experience in aerospace, maritime, autonomous vehicle, or comparable planning/optimization fields is necessary.
Strong leadership in software requirements management, design, and implementation is essential.
Experience in developing software architecture and integrating new feature designs into existing software is required.
Deep expertise in satellite subsystems such as ADCS, CDH, GNC, and others is needed.
Proficiency in Python or Golang for writing prototype or production code is required.
U.S. citizenship is mandatory for this position.
