Stratton Studios is seeking a Lead Game Developer to take ownership of the technical direction of game projects and manage the execution of scalable, performant game systems.
The role involves leading a distributed development team, making architectural decisions, and ensuring quality and delivery across projects in collaboration with creative and production leads.
Responsibilities include defining and overseeing the implementation of key game systems, architecture, and pipelines in Unity.
The Lead Game Developer will lead and mentor Unity developers, ensuring consistency in code quality and technical approaches.
High-level decisions around gameplay architecture, asset management, and build performance will be made by the Lead Game Developer.
Close collaboration with cross-discipline leads is required to align engineering strategy with creative goals.
The position includes managing sprint planning, technical documentation, and risk assessments for development workflows.
The Lead Game Developer will contribute hands-on to critical systems and resolve complex technical challenges as needed.
Maintaining alignment across time zones to ensure smooth communication and execution across the team is essential.
Requirements:
Candidates must have leadership experience in Unity game development on shipped titles or live-service games.
A deep knowledge of gameplay architecture, networking, optimization, and engine internals is required.
A proven track record of managing developer performance, conducting code reviews, and mentoring is essential.
Experience in driving technical direction in collaboration with production and creative leadership is necessary.
The ability to manage technical risk, forecast bottlenecks, and guide cross-functional delivery is required.
Bonus skills include expertise in Unity ECS/DOTS, backend integration, or platform-specific scaling.
A background in live-service workflows, CI/CD, or build automation is preferred.
Familiarity with AI systems, procedural tools, or advanced rendering techniques is a plus.
Experience in building and maintaining internal documentation and technical onboarding resources is beneficial.
