Responsibilities include coaching and mentoring research scientists, guiding technical direction in foundational model development, and partnering cross-functionally to translate research into product impact.
The role also includes representing Canva in the global AI community through publications, talks, or open-source contributions.
This position is remote-friendly within Australia or New Zealand, allowing flexibility in work location.
Requirements:
Candidates should have experience leading research or applied science teams with a proven track record of coaching and impact.
Expert knowledge and experience with Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Diffusion Models, Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Autoregressive Models are required.
Deep skills in machine learning, AI, or foundational model development and training are essential, along with a hands-on approach.
The ability to translate cutting-edge research into practical, scalable solutions is necessary.
Candidates must demonstrate strategic thinking and scientific rigor in project direction and problem-solving.
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences are important.
Staying current with research trends and a passion for continuous learning are expected.
