The Lead Software Engineer II is responsible for developing robust, scalable backend services that power the Best Egg Financial Health and Best Egg native app platforms.
This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining server-side application logic using Python in a cloud-native AWS environment.
The Best Egg native app enables customers to view and service their loans, providing secure and easy access to account information, payment management, and other self-service features.
The position involves working closely with a highly skilled team to transform customer interactions with credit through data-driven tools such as financial forecasting, budgeting recommendations, loan servicing, and analytics services.
Duties include developing and maintaining backend systems, designing and implementing scalable RESTful APIs, integrating with data pipelines, ensuring system reliability, collaborating cross-functionally, participating in code reviews, and writing technical documentation.
Requirements:
A strong Python background with 3–5 years of backend development experience is required.
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience is necessary.
Strong experience with cloud-native development in AWS, including services like Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, and RDS is essential.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform is required.
Experience in building and consuming REST APIs is necessary.
Experience supporting mobile app backends is a strong plus.
Understanding of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) workflows is required.
Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (ECS or Kubernetes) is a plus.
The ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code is essential.
Strong technical leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring team members, are required.
The candidate should be organized, self-motivated, and committed to mentoring others.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary.

The salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $120,000 a year, with eligibility for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance, targeting 20%.
