Braze is seeking an ML Applied Science Engineer to join their team, focusing on applying reinforcement learning to solve real-world customer communication challenges.
The role involves improving sample efficiency, testing credit assignment and attribution algorithms, and investigating action space featurization and reward shaping.
Responsibilities include enhancing RL algorithms for performance and robustness, developing diagnostic tools, conducting research on RL techniques for marketing optimization, and implementing monitoring tools.
The engineer will collaborate with engineering teams to enhance Braze's platform and develop APIs for ML components, as well as participate in customer implementations to gain insights into real-world use cases.
The position also requires contributing to Brazeโs product strategy and roadmap.
Requirements:
Candidates must be exceptional coders with experience in writing clean, well-designed, versioned code, and a commitment to good coding practices.
Problem-solving skills are essential, with a focus on tackling complex challenges using novel ML approaches.

A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field with a focus on Reinforcement Learning is preferred, though an MS with professional experience in RL is acceptable.
Proficiency in the Python ML ecosystem, Spark, BigQuery, and FastAPI is required, along with familiarity with Kubernetes, Airflow, Terraform, and GCP.
Web development skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, and related technologies are not required but are a plus.
The team follows best practices in code development, including well-tested, type-hinted, documented, and modular code, along with CI/CD and issue tracking.
