We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Network Engineer Contractor to join our IT team.
This position is a 6-month contract with the potential to extend.
The role is primarily remote, with 2-3 days of initial onsite training required in Richmond, VA.
The Network Engineer will assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of our organization's network infrastructure.
The candidate will work closely with Senior Network Engineers and other IT professionals to ensure the performance, security, and scalability of our network systems.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in networking concepts, is a proactive problem solver, and is eager to learn and contribute in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities include assisting in the design and deployment of network infrastructure, maintaining and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls, supporting DNS, DHCP, and AAA systems, monitoring network performance and resolving issues using diagnostic tools, contributing to network documentation and operational procedures, and collaborating with team members to support secure and efficient networking operations.
Requirements:
The candidate must have 3+ years of experience in a technical enterprise environment focused on network management and maintenance.
A solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and subnetting is required.
Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto) is necessary.
Knowledge of DNS and DHCP systems such as Infoblox is required.
Experience with AAA systems such as Cisco Client is needed.
Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, PRTG) is essential.
A basic understanding of LAN/WAN environments and wireless technologies is required.
Knowledge of network security practices such as VPNs, access control, and firewalls is necessary.
Experience working with Windows and Linux operating systems in a networked environment is required.
Basic knowledge of cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is necessary.
