Remote Principal Data Engineer

Description:

• Lantern is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to shape the future of their Data Platform.
• This is a hands-on role that involves developing and implementing the strategic vision for the platform while promoting advanced Data Engineering, ML, and AI capabilities across the organization.
• The role includes mentoring team members and applying expertise in Data Architecture and software engineering best practices to strengthen the platform's foundation.
• Responsibilities include architecting and building platform foundations, modularizing platform frameworks, collaborating with Data Engineers and Business Analysts, building technical design documents, championing software engineering best practices, evolving platform capabilities, adopting an iterative product development mindset, partnering with stakeholders to define Data Strategy, and fostering a positive team environment.
• The position is remote and based in the USA.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
• Candidates must have 12+ years of experience in Data Engineering, with at least 5+ years as a Principal Engineer.
• A minimum of 5+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python and Scala, with a deep understanding of Spark and Databricks, is necessary.
• Candidates should have 3+ years of experience working with EDI or HIE standards (e.g., X12, HL7, and/or FHIR).
• Proven leadership experience in managing and developing data engineering teams is required.
• Prior experience in designing and managing large-scale data infrastructure is essential.
• Expertise with cloud platforms, databases, and modern data stacks, including proficiency in Distributed Data Systems (e.g., Kafka, NoSQL), is needed.
• Experience in building data lakes for high-speed querying by end users is required.
• Knowledge of AI/ML technologies to support various business use cases is necessary.
• Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience or knowledge in creating RESTful APIs and data visualizations is required.
