  • The Principal Data Scientist for Wildfire Management will analyze, monitor, and evaluate wildfire risks and impacts using remote sensing technologies and data.
  • This role involves leading the development of wildfire catastrophe models, including ignition and spread dynamics.
  • The candidate will build hazard models through simulations across geographically dispersed topologies and design risk and impact models to quantify potential consequences of wildfire events.
  • Responsibilities include developing methodologies to analyze remote sensing data, collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate wildfire risk outputs into actionable business insights, and executing field surveys to validate model predictions.

Requirements:

  • The candidate must have deep expertise in building a range of wildfire models, including ignition and spread models.
  • Proven experience in building hazard models using wildfire simulations to assess potential severity and intensity is required.
  • An extensive background in creating risk and impact models to estimate financial losses from wildfire events is necessary.
  • Proficiency in applying AI/ML techniques and statistical methods to build catastrophic risk models is essential.
  • A Master’s or PhD in Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required.
  • Experience applying wildfire risk models in the utility sector is a plus.
