Remote Principal Engineer - Machine Learning Architecture

Description:

• As a Principal Engineer in Machine Learning Architecture, you will lead the technical vision and development of ML infrastructure at Marqeta.
• You will collaborate with Machine Learning Science, Product, and Engineering teams to refine ML development journeys and define the target state ML architecture.
• Your role includes driving technical design decisions and collaborating with engineering teams to implement the architecture.
• You will work to drive the adoption of best practices across the organization and improve the operating posture.
• Building effective relationships outside the Data+ML organization, including with product and engineering leaders, is essential.
• You will coach and mentor members of the Data+ML team and participate in designing and building Marqeta's data and ML ecosystem.
• This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Machine Learning and involves leading the design and development of Marqeta’s Machine Learning infrastructure.
• The role can be performed remotely within the United States or from the Oakland, CA headquarters.

Requirements:

• You must have 10+ years of experience in a Machine Learning engineering or architecture role with deep expertise in ML architecture, MLOps, feature stores, data pipelines, inference, and monitoring infrastructure using AWS managed services.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience building large-scale, compliant ML architectures in the financial services or similarly regulated industry is required.
• You should have 10+ years of experience using product-oriented, user experience-centered approaches to building ML platforms and services.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to cultivate relationships across teams and influence decision-making.
• Proven ability to develop structure, advance execution, and measure performance within complex projects and teams is essential.
• You must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create technical design and product requirements documentation.
• A proactive and strategic mindset is required, with the ability to anticipate business needs of customers and stakeholders.
• A strong bias toward action and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is necessary.
• High ethical standards and a commitment to promoting a strong culture are essential.
• A BS degree is preferred.
