Description:

  • Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company focused on enabling the transition to clean energy.
  • The company aims to improve quality of life while protecting the environment through the commercialization of fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactors (FHR).
  • The Principal Engineer will lead the development of the KP-FHR Power Generation System (PGS), including steam cycles and associated equipment.
  • This role reports to the Director of Power Generation Systems and involves developing technical design solutions for the rapid development and integration of PGS Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs).
  • Responsibilities include designing and developing the PGS, leading design trades and performance analyses, collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing external partners, and overseeing technical specifications and design documents.
  • The engineer will perform feasibility studies, mentor the engineering team, present findings to management, support commissioning and testing, and stay updated on industry advancements.

Requirements:

  • A M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Candidates must have 15+ years of experience in the design and development of power conversion systems, particularly in the nuclear or thermal power sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex engineering projects and leading technical teams is essential, along with a thorough understanding of evaluation, design, and licensing of new technology.
  • Experience with heat transport systems using molten salt or other high-temperature fluids is a plus.
  • A track record of physical hardware deployment is also advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles related to steam cycles is necessary.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for nuclear power systems is required.
  • Proficiency in engineering simulation and analysis software is essential.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
