Description:

  • The Security Design Engineer role requires experience in protective design, physical security, and civil construction to support the Client's Global Security Systems & Technology program.
  • The Specialist must have strong knowledge in security, design, construction, and project delivery processes related to protective design and physical security for critical facilities, especially data centers.
  • This position focuses on the coordination, incorporation, and review of physical security requirements, including site layout, barriers and fencing, access controls, intrusion detection systems, video surveillance, security lighting, and structural hardening for new build projects.
  • Close coordination with operational and technological security teams, as well as architects and engineers across various disciplines (Civil, Landscape, Structural, Architectural, Electrical, and Security), is required.
  • The role supports project delivery on the Client's leased and owned data centers.
  • Responsibilities include ensuring protective design requirements are communicated to the project team, attending meetings with project design teams, coordinating protective design requirements, and reviewing ongoing project progress.
  • The Specialist will work with internal partners to ensure protective design elements are coordinated across standards and design documents.
  • Collaboration with external design consultants is necessary to incorporate protective design elements into contract documents according to standards and laws.
  • The role involves reviewing design team drawings, contractor submittals, and RFIs, as well as ensuring protective design elements are constructed and maintained according to standards and best practices.
  • The Specialist will support efforts to scale the protective design practice, including evaluating current practices and investigating new technologies.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering (Civil, Structural) and 2-3+ years of relevant work experience (e.g., design, construction, O&M) or 4+ years of experience in technical and/or physical security design is required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with design and construction management is essential.
  • Experience with mission critical and/or technical facility projects is necessary.
  • The candidate must have experience communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Relevant professional registration(s) and/or certifications are preferred.
