January AI is a precision health company that combines continuous glucose monitoring with heart rate, sleep, activity, and food tracking to provide real-time insights into personal metabolic health.
The company aims to help individuals understand how their bodies metabolize food and make simple changes to avoid serious health issues.
As a Senior AI Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and productionizing advanced AI systems, including designing, tuning, and deploying models that translate complex health data into actionable insights.
You will innovate in retrieval and reasoning by developing sophisticated Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines that fuse structured and unstructured data for deep reasoning over user health profiles.
The role involves fine-tuning and customizing state-of-the-art language and multi-modal models on proprietary datasets to enhance accuracy and safety for health applications.
You will build and evaluate AI agents capable of complex reasoning to guide users toward better health outcomes.
Establishing best practices for the entire machine learning lifecycle, including data preprocessing, model evaluation, and performance monitoring, will be part of your responsibilities.
You will stay updated with AI research and translate cutting-edge techniques into product innovation.
Requirements:
A BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
You must have 4+ years of professional experience in building and deploying machine learning models in a production environment.
High proficiency in Python and its core machine learning libraries, such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, and scikit-learn, is necessary.
You should have 1-2 years of hands-on experience architecting solutions with Large Language Models (LLMs), including direct experience with models from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or open-source alternatives.
Proven experience with vector databases and a strong understanding of semantic search, retrieval, and ranking principles is required.
A track record of working with LLMs and building and optimizing RAG systems from first principles is essential.
Solid software engineering fundamentals, including proficiency with SQL databases and experience in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP), are needed.
A strong quantitative background in evaluating ML models, including defining novel metrics, statistical validation, and designing A/B tests for product settings, is required.
