Description:
The Senior Backend Developer will architect and develop scalable server-side applications and APIs using Node.js.
The role involves designing database schemas and managing data workflows using relational and/or noSQL databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
The developer will build and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs for front-end consumption.
Responsibilities include optimizing system performance, reliability, and security across multiple early-stage product builds.
The position requires collaboration with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration between front and back-end systems.
The developer will support rapid prototyping for early concept validation and MVP development.
Maintaining clean, well-documented, and testable code across projects is essential.
The role includes mentoring junior developers and contributing to establishing engineering best practices within the team.
Other role-specific duties may arise as needed.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is mandatory.
Candidates must have 5+ years of professional experience as a back-end developer with a strong focus on Node.js.
Solid experience in designing and working with APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) is required.
A strong understanding of data modeling and database systems (SQL and NoSQL) is necessary.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and deployment pipelines is expected.
Knowledge of authentication, authorization, and security best practices, including OAuth and JWT, is essential.
Experience with unit testing and integration testing frameworks, such as Mocha and Jest, is required.
The ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and contribute across multiple product lifecycles is important.
Excellent problem-solving skills and communication abilities are necessary.
Nice to have:
DevOps knowledge or interest in infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform is a plus.
Exposure to serverless computing, such as AWS Lambda or Vercel Functions, is beneficial.
Experience with event-driven architecture or microservices is advantageous.
Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes is a plus.
Prior experience in a venture studio or startup environment is desirable.
