As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in scaling commerce and content platforms to serve millions of customers.
You will lead backend initiatives that drive high performance, reliability, and extensibility across systems.
Responsibilities include architecting, building, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, Go, and AWS infrastructure.
You will design and document service contracts that integrate commerce, content, personalization, and user systems.
Collaboration with frontend, mobile, infrastructure, and product teams is essential to deliver well-integrated features.
You will contribute to a modular, event-driven architecture using message queues.
Driving initiatives to improve performance, availability, and fault tolerance in high-traffic services is part of the role.
Writing robust tests and implementing monitoring and alerting to support operational excellence is required.
Participation in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and post-release reviews will be expected.
You will triage and resolve production issues, participate in root cause analysis, and improve system observability.
Contributing to documentation, tooling, and development workflows to improve backend team velocity and quality is also part of your responsibilities.
Requirements:
You must have 5+ years of backend development experience in production systems.
Proficiency in Node.js and/or Go is required.
Experience designing RESTful or GraphQL APIs is necessary.
A strong grasp of system design, testing, and debugging in cloud environments (AWS preferred) is essential.
Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar container orchestration tools is required.
Bonus points for experience with event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
Prior work integrating with Shopify or other headless commerce platforms is a plus.
Exposure to observability tooling and performance optimization is beneficial.
Experience mentoring other engineers or leading technical initiatives is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $165,000 - $185,000 a year, with actual pay varying based on factors such as location, experience, and performance.
