• As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will primarily focus on coding, architecting, and owning moderate to complex components.
• You may lead a small team or project, provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and manage small to medium-sized projects from start to finish.
• Potential areas of focus include leveraging AI for data insights, enhancing user account management, and improving core messaging and calling features.
• The backend is built on Node using Typescript, with Kubernetes on AWS for infrastructure orchestration.
• The architecture is event-driven microservices utilizing RabbitMQ, with various databases including Postgres, Mongo, Elastic, and Redis.
• The role involves using observability tools like Datadog and other tools such as Figma, Linear, Notion, and Slack.

Requirements:

• Strong experience with Typescript or object-oriented languages such as Java or C#, along with Javascript/Node.
• Proficiency in observability tools, including metrics, structured logging, and distributed tracing.
• A strong sense of ownership and communication skills, with a commitment to high standards and empowering others.
• Intentionality in understanding the impact of work on customers and the community, practicing empathy and thoughtfulness in decision-making.
• Curiosity and a desire to understand the underlying reasons for tasks, supporting teammates and customers in the pursuit of knowledge.
• Ability to write clean, readable, testable, and maintainable code, leaving the codebase in a better state than found.

• The annual base salary range for this position in Canada is $192,000 - $212,000 CAD, plus equity and benefits.
