Remote Senior Ground Station Engineer , Compute and Network

Description:

• Planet is a company that designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering a vast dataset via a cloud-based platform.
• The Senior Ground Station Engineer will be part of an Operations and Development team focused on maintaining over 99% uptime of a geographically diverse Ground Station network.
• The Ground Station network includes a mix of cloud infrastructure, physical servers, networking equipment, and industrial controllers that autonomously track and communicate with Planet’s 150+ satellite constellation.
• The role involves collaborating with Spacecraft Operators and Mission Control engineers to control spacecraft and manage data transfer.
• The position requires the ability to climb and lift/push/pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States, with an expectation to work from an office three days a week if located near one.

Requirements:

• A minimum of a 4-year degree or equivalent technical certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other Natural Sciences, or a minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role is required.
• At least 4 years of experience working in an IT environment managing a large or complex environment is necessary.
• Candidates must have 2+ years of programming experience with languages such as Bash, Python, Perl, Rust, Go, C/C++, or equivalents.
• A minimum of 4 years of Linux or UNIX administration experience in a production environment is required.
• Candidates should have 4+ years of experience working with BGP, IPSec, TCP, UDP, and IP protocols in a production environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time is required.
• The ability to foster a collaborative environment and mentor team members is essential.
• Candidates must be able to work with little or no supervision.
• The ability to lift 50 pounds (22 kgs) without assistance is required.
• Candidates must hold a valid Passport and be able to travel internationally to Planet's Ground Station locations.
• A valid Driver's License is also required.
