Scribd is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design, build, and optimize ML systems that scale to millions of users.
The role involves working across the entire lifecycle from data ingestion to model training, deployment, and monitoring, focusing on creating fast, reliable, and cost-efficient pipelines.
The engineer will contribute to next-generation AI features like doc-chat and ask-AI, enhancing user interaction with Scribd’s content.
Responsibilities include collaborating with engineering and analytics teams to build large-scale data pipelines, training and deploying ML models, designing and running experiments, and partnering with product managers and data scientists to deliver user-focused solutions.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 4+ years of experience as a professional ML or software engineer, with a proven track record of delivering production ML systems at scale.
Proficiency in at least one key programming language is required, preferably Python or Golang, with Scala or Ruby also considered.
Expertise in designing and architecting large-scale ML pipelines and distributed systems is essential.
Deep experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Spark or Databricks is necessary.
Strong cloud expertise in AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with experience in deployment platforms like ECS, EKS, or Lambda, is required.
Candidates should have a proven ability to optimize system performance and make informed trade-offs in ML model and system design.
Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers is expected.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience is required.
Nice to have: Experience with embedding-based retrieval, large language models, advanced recommendation or ranking systems, and expertise in experimentation design or ML evaluation methodologies.
