Kitware, Inc. is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer—BSS to work in Carrboro, NC, with the option to work remotely from supporting state locations.
The role involves working on the Interactive Medical Simulation Toolkit (iMSTK), which is an open-source toolkit for medical simulation, as well as other modeling and visualization libraries such as Pulse and VTK.
Responsibilities include implementing new features, improving the performance of existing modules, assisting with the execution of funded projects, and providing customer support.
The engineer will perform software development tasks in support of project goals with minimal guidance and participate in research activities.
The position requires understanding the platforms and technology within the technical team and contributing by adding tests, fixing bugs, and responding to questions.
The engineer will lead small-to-medium-sized projects with guidance from team principals or leadership and respond to questions or issues from other teams.
Contributions to grant proposal submissions to federal government agencies are also expected, and some domestic travel may be involved.

Requirements:
Candidates must hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, or alternatively, a Master's degree in the same fields with 3 years of experience in simulation or developing computational methods.
Proficiency in C++ programming is required, along with a strong understanding of numerical methods such as finite elements, finite difference, and numerical solvers.
Required skills can be acquired concurrently with education, and candidates will be assessed through a technical screen or interview.
Benefits:
The position offers a competitive salary range of $141,170 to $160,000 per year.
