Description:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Scientific Software Engineer to join their mission of transitioning to fusion energy.
The role involves developing software for a fiber optic quench detection system, which is crucial for managing superconducting magnets.
The engineer will develop an algorithm for detecting quenches based on data from the fiber optic system.
Responsibilities include enhancing the performance of the quench detection algorithm and improving complex physics-based models and simulations.
The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify key data and algorithm needs and communicate technical results effectively.
The position requires the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to streamline development processes.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred.
Proficiency in Python, including type hinting and object-oriented features, is required.
A basic understanding of numerical methods, linear algebra, and differential equations is necessary.
Familiarity with the project's physics aspects, such as undergraduate-level electromagnetics and optics, is expected.
Experience in data analysis using Python packages like pandas, numpy, and matplotlib is required.
Experience with at least one of the following areas: signal processing, machine learning, or data analytic tools is necessary.
Must be able to perform activities such as typing or sitting for extended periods.
A dedication to safety in mitigating industrial hazards is essential.
Willingness to travel or work nights/weekends/on-call occasionally is required.
Benefits:
The salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 - $200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.
