Remote Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Description:

• Firsthand is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join their team of founding engineers.
• The role involves building, automating, monitoring, and maintaining cloud infrastructure for web, data, and machine learning teams.
• Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• The engineer will develop, deploy, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure in the GCP ecosystem.
• The position requires maintaining and improving GitHub Actions CI/CD workflows.
• The engineer will help monitor, alert, and address root causes for incidents and document fixes.
• Documentation of decisions regarding technology choices, best practices, and processes is also required.
• The role includes building tools that facilitate team productivity and prioritize developer experience.
• This position is open to remote candidates who can work in US time zones.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 4+ years of professional work experience as a software engineer, with at least 2 years in an SRE role.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required.
• A strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or JavaScript is necessary.
• Proven experience in authoring and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) with Terraform and deploying resources in GCP, AWS, or Azure is essential.
• Experience with container management architectures like Docker and Kubernetes is required.
• Candidates should have experience managing monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Strong networking knowledge, including routing, firewall rules, NAT policies, and load balancing, is necessary.
• Experience in building and maintaining CI/CD platforms and supporting agile engineering teams is required.
• Familiarity with relational databases, particularly Postgres, is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to write concise documents are essential.
• A desire and passion to work in an early-stage startup and comfort with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment are important.
