Remote Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Description:

• Onebrief is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate the core systems of their platform.
• This role is hands-on with a focus on performance, reliability, and operational excellence.
• The backend is built on modern languages, frameworks, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Responsibilities include working on high-impact systems such as core backend services, databases, monitoring, and metrics pipelines.
• The engineer will tackle challenges in scaling, performance, data modeling, fault tolerance, observability, and disaster recovery.
• The role involves shaping architecture and contributing to operational and long-term strategy.
• Key tasks include designing, building, and maintaining backend services, evolving data models, diagnosing performance issues, and collaborating on architecture.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 5+ years of experience in backend software development.
• A B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or Go is necessary.
• A deep understanding of designing and building scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) is essential.
• Strong experience with relational and/or non-relational databases, data modeling, and query optimization is required.
• Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and maintain distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of application performance tuning, reliability, and security best practices is needed.
• Hands-on experience with containerization and cloud infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP/Azure) is required.
• Proven ability to collaborate across functions (product, design, frontend, DevOps) to deliver end-to-end solutions is necessary.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs clearly are essential.
• A track record of ownership and delivering complex projects in a fast-paced environment is required.
