This position is for a Senior Software Engineer, Ground & Control Services at BlackSky, located in the United States.
The role involves writing code that powers satellite operations and real-time space intelligence.
The engineer will bridge low-level interfaces and modern cloud infrastructure to build the autonomous backbone for controlling a live satellite constellation.
Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining software for autonomous satellite operations, health monitoring, and real-time tasking.
The engineer will create services that integrate with ground stations and satellite communication protocols.
Building cloud-native microservices for scheduling, telemetry, and control logic is a key part of the job.
Collaboration with systems, operations, flight, and mission planning teams to refine technical requirements is expected.
The engineer will write clean, testable, safety-conscious code while adhering to modern development practices.
Participation in technical design reviews, code reviews, and sprint planning is required.
The role includes contributing to the launch and early operations of newly deployed satellites.
The engineer will join on-call rotations to support real-time incident response and system troubleshooting.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience is required.
A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience is necessary.
Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go, Python, or C++ is required.
Solid experience with cloud infrastructure and microservices (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) is essential.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools, automated testing frameworks, and Git-based workflows is needed.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to understand end-to-end complex systems are required.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills within multi-disciplinary teams are necessary.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens to comply with government regulations.

The position offers a competitive salary range of $135,000–$155,000 in the Seattle, WA area, which may vary by location and experience.
