Vannevar Labs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on Identity in the United States.
This role involves building critical infrastructure for authentication and access control across enterprise tools.
The engineer will design, implement, and maintain authentication (AuthN) and authorization (AuthZ) systems using open-source tools like Keycloak and OpenFGA.
Responsibilities include defining API-level security strategies and implementing identity workflows across more than 10 enterprise products.
The position requires building and maintaining user management systems, including SSO flows, login interfaces, and access control mechanisms.
Collaboration with the Information Security team is essential to ensure compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) security requirements.
The engineer will work with the Mission team to deliver seamless and secure user experiences.
Mentoring junior engineers and defining the technical roadmap for identity systems are key accountabilities.
The role requires serving as a subject matter expert on secure identity architectures and promoting best practices across the organization.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 8+ years of full-stack engineering experience with a strong track record of building secure, scalable infrastructure.
Deep knowledge of authentication protocols such as OIDC and SAML is required, along with experience integrating with identity providers like Okta or Microsoft Entra ID.
A strong foundation in modern AuthZ models such as RBAC, ABAC, Google Zanzibar, UMA, or ACL-based access control is necessary.
Experience deploying and managing identity systems with open-source technologies like Keycloak and OpenFGA is essential.
Proven leadership skills, including mentoring and roadmap development in cross-functional environments, are required.
The ability to architect reliable backend systems that connect seamlessly with user-facing components is necessary.
U.S. Person status is required due to access to U.S.-only data systems.
A passion for mission-driven work and secure-by-design software engineering is essential.
