The position focuses on delivering best-in-class performance monitoring across Canva, driving initiatives in three key areas: building the right tooling & infrastructure, strengthening performance analysis & guardrails, and driving enablement & a performance-first culture.
Responsibilities include designing and maintaining lightweight SDKs, dashboards, and CI/PR checks for key performance metrics, embedding OpenTelemetry standards, collaborating with teams for low-overhead metric collection, rolling out performance checks, investigating bottlenecks, mining data for performance improvements, publishing guides, leading technical reviews, and bootstrapping a performance knowledge server.
The Senior Engineer will own the observability stack for real-user monitoring, craft tooling for performance measurement, champion a performance-first mindset, and collaborate across products to enhance user experience.
Requirements:
Proven experience in JavaScript frontend development, specifically designing, building, and shipping rich JavaScript/TypeScript interfaces using React.
Full-stack fluency is required, with comfort in working across the stack, including Node-based services and modern CI/CD workflows.
A data-driven mindset is essential, balancing intuition with evidence and designing statistically sound experiments.
Clear communication skills are necessary to convey complex performance data to various stakeholders.
Ability to influence stakeholders and manage priorities across product, platform, and leadership teams.
Bonus points for deep web-performance knowledge, experience with large-scale observability and RUM tools, and strong TypeScript skills.
