As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Travel team, you will architect and scale backend systems that power flight deal discovery, data ingestion, inventory search, and booking systems.
You will work on core systems such as GDS integrations, internal APIs, async job pipelines, and authentication services to deliver magical travel experiences.
This role involves deep technical ownership, cross-team collaboration, mentorship, and hands-on contributions.
In the short term, you will ramp up on Goingβs backend services, contribute to core travel systems, lead backend feature development, propose performance improvements, mentor engineers, and shape future system design.
In the long term, you will own and evolve core components of the backend architecture, lead the development of scalable systems, drive improvements in service observability and performance, collaborate on technical strategy, mentor engineers, and influence engineering-wide standards.
Requirements:
You must have 8+ years of backend engineering experience in high-scale, distributed systems.
Proficiency in both statically and dynamically typed programming languages, such as Go and Python/Ruby, is required.
Strong knowledge of Linux-based systems, system debugging, and operational fundamentals is essential.
You should have deep experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), caching (Redis), and async job queues (e.g., Sidekiq, Celery).
Experience working with APMs and observability tooling (e.g., Datadog, New Relic) is necessary.
Clear and empathetic communication skills are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, product managers, and designers.
You must be able to work US hours and be legally authorized to work in the United States.

The salary for this role is $160,000 plus equity.
