Description:

  • Kentro is seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator to support the VA-ESOM contract across the United States.
  • The role involves providing comprehensive onsite and remote support to IT customers across all VA Administrations and special program offices.
  • The Senior SQL Database Administrator will maintain and secure databases, conduct performance tuning and optimization, support backup and recovery events, monitor and troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with development, testing, and maintenance activities.
  • The candidate will be dedicated to the Application Performance Monitoring team, responsible for supporting 25 – 27 SolarWinds SQL databases within the VA environment.
  • Responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing database solutions, managing SQL databases for enterprise services, patching Windows SQL servers, conducting backups and failovers, optimizing database access, and monitoring SQL server performance.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or a related technical discipline, or 10 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required.
  • The candidate must be able to support Monday – Friday during normal working hours and may need to flex time for on-call 24/7/365 support.
  • Flexibility in schedule is necessary to conduct weekly nightly SQL maintenance with server patching.
  • Prior experience with SolarWinds and in-depth experience with SQL is essential.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication skills, and attention to detail are required.
  • The candidate must exhibit effective communication, collaboration, organization, and coordination across multiple levels.
  • Expertise in operating under high-pressure situations and mitigating applications/system risks is necessary.
  • The ability to work with teams while being self-motivated to complete projects independently is required.
