Rocket Money is seeking a Senior Team Leader for their Data Science and Machine Learning team, which focuses on building AI-powered experiences to help members achieve financial goals.
The role involves leading and managing a team of 7-10 data scientists and ML engineers, creating processes for autonomous operation within cross-functional teams while ensuring high quality standards and accountability for ML product delivery.
The Senior Team Leader will drive architectural strategy for AI/ML systems, particularly focusing on implementing LLM-powered features and GenAI applications to enhance product experience and customer engagement.
Responsibilities include guiding the development of next-generation chat experiences and AI-augmented analytics initiatives, ensuring successful delivery of conversational interfaces for both customer-facing and internal tools.
The leader will direct the development of AI and ML-driven personalization systems across the product suite and foster strong working relationships with engineering, product, and design teams for successful integration of AI and ML systems.
Creating ambitious yet achievable quarterly roadmaps to advance ML/AI infrastructure while delivering tangible user value through enhanced product experiences is essential.
The role requires accountability for team commitments, particularly in experimentation and systematic deployment of ML/AI features.
Investing in team growth through individualized development plans aligned with the company’s strategy and creating impactful mentorship relationships are key aspects of the position.
Requirements:
Candidates must have deep expertise in machine learning and a strong understanding of modern ML systems architecture, especially in deploying LLMs and generative AI in production environments.
A minimum of 3 years of experience managing data scientists and ML engineers is required, with a proven track record of successfully leading teams in delivering user-facing AI and ML products.
Experience in implementing and scaling ML systems, particularly in real-time inference, model monitoring, and maintaining high-quality production ML services is essential.
Hands-on experience in building and deploying LLM-powered features in production, including prompt engineering, context management, and responsible AI practices is necessary.
Candidates should be able to tailor their management style to suit individual employees and excel at stakeholder management to build effective relationships across the organization.
A build-first mentality is required, with the ability to lead teams in creating scalable ML systems that accelerate product delivery cycles.
Expert experience in experimentation is a must, guiding systematic approaches to ML feature testing, implementation, and assessment.
A focus on shipping valuable features rather than pursuing perfect solutions is crucial, along with a desire for continuous growth and learning.
Experience in fintech, banking, or finance is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $220,000 - $250,000 per year, plus bonuses and benefits, with base pay varying based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
