  • The Software Engineer I (Backend) will focus on backend development using PHP (Laravel) for the Payments team.
  • The role involves building, maintaining, and optimizing core payment processing services for Neon products.
  • Approximately 90% of the work will be backend, with occasional collaboration with the frontend team using VueJS.
  • The position is part of a Scrum team of 3-5 developers, a Scrum master, and a product owner, working in an agile environment with two-week sprints.
  • Responsibilities include writing and testing server-side code, maintaining libraries for compatibility and security, troubleshooting software issues, and collaborating with team members to refine requirements.
  • The engineer will participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and contribute to team culture through activities like hackathons.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 2+ years of recent, production-level experience developing backend systems with PHP (Laravel preferred).
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required.
  • Experience in building and maintaining CRUD APIs and working with production software is necessary.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS or Microsoft Azure is preferred.
  • A solid understanding of relational databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL is essential.
  • The ability to work independently within 30 days, with strong support during onboarding, is required.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a collaborative, proactive approach in a remote environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to engage with the team, including video calls, are necessary.
  • A passion for mission-driven work and supporting nonprofits is essential.
