Description:

• This position is for a Software Engineer, NHX Express & Guide at Thumbtack, located in the United States.
• The role involves joining a fast-moving, AI-native product team focused on transforming how people solve everyday home issues.
• Responsibilities include developing and shipping smart, intuitive product experiences that assist users in describing and addressing home needs through multimodal interactions.
• The engineer will integrate LLMs and vision models, build intelligent backend services, and collaborate closely with designers, researchers, and product managers.
• Key accountabilities include designing and implementing end-to-end features, building backend services and APIs for AI-powered flows, and driving continuous improvement in AI system quality, latency, and reliability.
• The engineer will also own and evolve systems that interpret messy real-world input into clear, actionable data and contribute to a fast-paced, experimentation-driven development culture.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 2+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in building user-facing product experiences.
• A deep interest in AI and a track record of exploring or using LLMs or vision models in real-world or side projects is required.
• Experience in at least one major backend language (Go or Python preferred) is necessary, with familiarity in Swift, Kotlin, or Java considered a plus.
• Understanding of relational and non-relational databases such as Postgres, MySQL, or DynamoDB is essential.
• Familiarity with AI/ML tools and techniques like context engineering, model fine-tuning, and performance monitoring is required.
• A strong product sense and a desire to solve real user problems with emerging technology are important.
• Candidates should possess a collaborative mindset, capable of working cross-functionally and contributing to both technical and UX decisions.
