Description:

• Consumer Reports is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to a fair and just marketplace for consumers.
• The organization is seeking a Software Engineer for its Innovation Lab’s Product R&D team, focusing on building AskCR, an AI that offers consumer advice using trusted information.
• The role involves architecting and scaling core systems for AskCR to ensure reliability, performance, and ease of evolution across web and mobile experiences.
• Responsibilities include driving technical strategy, aligning business goals with platform decisions, orchestrating development cycles, championing best practices, resolving production issues, and mentoring fellow engineers.
• This is a remote position and is not eligible for sponsorship.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience is required, ideally across both backend and frontend domains.
• Deep expertise in Python is necessary, along with strong fluency in frameworks like FastAPI, React, and/or React Native.
• A proven track record of designing, scaling, and shipping reliable multi-platform applications in production is essential.
• Candidates should be comfortable working in CI/CD-heavy environments and possess solid skills in observability, debugging, and automation.
• Effective communication skills are required to translate technical concepts for peers in product, design, and editorial.
