The SQL Server Database Consultant position is a full-time, remote role based in the USA, focusing on Microsoft's Data Platform.
The consultant will coordinate, analyze, design, implement, and administer IT solutions based on Microsoft's Data Platform.
Responsibilities include recommending best practices for operational processes, configuring and maintaining database servers, and supporting SQL Server Database services.
The role involves administering backup procedures, disaster recovery plans, troubleshooting operational problems, and conducting proactive daily checks.
The consultant will respond to monitoring alerts, present technical courses to customers and peers, and participate in an on-call coverage rotation plan.
Effective communication of status and planning activities to customers and team members is essential.
Requirements:
Candidates should have experience installing, configuring, and upgrading SQL Server databases from versions 2008 to 2022.
Proficiency in SQL Server Administration, including managing server and database storage, and using SQL Server third-party tools is required.
Experience in performance tuning of database servers and familiarity with SQL Server management tools is necessary.
Knowledge of backup/recovery strategies, replication, log shipping, mirroring, clustering, and Always On Availability Groups is expected.
Experience with SSRS, Power BI, SSIS, and BI is required, along with strong T-SQL scripting and tuning experience.
Candidates should have skills in developing methods for monitoring database systems and supporting SSAS, ETL processes, and data warehouse environments.
Experience with cloud migrations and environments, particularly Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, is considered an asset.
Strong customer service focus, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a team are essential personal attributes.
An undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
