Remote Sr. Data Engineer

Description:

• The Data Platform team at Pismo is responsible for integrating data produced by Pismo's Banking as a Service/Payments platform with its clients through batch processing or near real-time events.
• The team operates with a robust, low-latency, and 100% cloud-based architecture, fostering a culture of collaboration, partnership, and data-driven decision making.
• As a senior technical contributor, you will lead the design and development of robust, scalable data pipelines using modern Big Data frameworks.
• You will drive continuous improvement in platform performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness by proactively identifying opportunities for innovation.
• The role involves taking ownership of production operations and monitoring, ensuring adherence to SLAs and applying best practices for observability and resilience.
• You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect, build, and evolve high-complexity data features, reducing technical debt and championing engineering excellence.
• Mentorship to peers through code reviews, feedback, and support is expected, fostering an environment of knowledge sharing and professional development.
• Participation in on-call rotations is required to promptly address and resolve production incidents while implementing preventative measures.
• You will build and optimize ETL/ELT processes to handle large-scale data, leveraging advanced data processing and distributed systems techniques.
• Maintaining rigorous data governance and platform standards while working closely with data stakeholders to ensure consistent, high-quality data assets is essential.
• The role includes introducing and adopting new technologies, tools, or techniques that accelerate development cycles, improve performance, and reduce costs.
• Conducting root-cause analyses for critical issues and refining team processes to enhance efficiency and reliability is part of the job.
• You will influence multiple teams by promoting a culture of technical excellence, forward-thinking solutions, and continuous improvement.
• This is a remote position, which may require occasional presence at a Visa office with scheduled notice.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of relevant work experience is required.
• Preferred qualifications include 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD).
• Technical skills required include 3+ years of experience with Golang, 3+ years of experience with AWS Services (Lambda, SQS, S3), and 2+ years of experience with Terraform.
• Software engineering experience in building streaming applications or data platforms is necessary.
• Python experience is desirable.
