The Sr. Software Engineer conducts high-level systems analysis and implements high-performing software solutions that are efficient and cost-effective, supporting Wellmark’s business and technology applications.
This role leads system development and guides the team in design, development, code testing, and debugging to ensure successful completion or resolution of issues while focusing on emerging technologies.
The engineer contributes to and drives the adoption of best practices, including development standards, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines across various platforms.
They lead and support a diverse development resourcing model, which includes Wellmark staff, global onshore/offshore staffing, and crowdsourcing.
The position involves building relationships with Wellmark leaders and acting as a consultant on business process improvements and technology enhancements or capabilities.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field of study, and at least 2 years of software development experience (e.g., Angular, NodeJS, TypeScript, C++, .NET, Java, SQL) OR 6 years of related and applicable experience is required.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills, accuracy, and high attention to detail are essential, along with previous experience troubleshooting and developing creative technical solutions.
Demonstrated experience in software development lifecycle methodologies is necessary.
The candidate must be a big picture thinker with the ability to translate the value of the WaaS strategy to company strategy when making design and development decisions.
Strong ability to gather information, perform necessary research for root cause analysis, problem definition, and formulation, and recommend solution implementation is required.
The ability to build relationships to reach outcomes that gain support and acceptance from all parties is essential, along with effective communication skills tailored to the audience.
The candidate should be able to communicate with and coach/mentor team members while maintaining a positive attitude and taking responsibility for failures.
Thriving in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, excellent organizational skills, and strong time management skills are necessary.
