Laurel is seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to join their team and have a direct impact on engineering practices throughout the backend stack.
The role involves solving high-level business challenges with a collaborative, cross-functional team.
Candidates should possess curiosity to ask the right questions to understand customer problems and the ability to learn quickly, write, and design quality software.
Responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining efficient, reusable, and reliable code across backend components, collaborating with product managers and designers, optimizing application performance, and implementing automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
The engineer will also work with Product and Customer Success teams to flesh out business requirements and participate in an on-call rotation.
The position emphasizes engagement with the product and users, valuing input and opinions on best practices and improvements.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required.
Candidates must have 8+ years of professional experience in Backend Software development, with Full Stack knowledge being a plus.
A solid understanding of modern web technologies and comfort with large-scale data systems is essential.
Deep knowledge and understanding of technologies such as Typescript, Node.js, messaging queues (e.g., AWS SQS), and MongoDB is required, with experience in Python (Django, FastAPI, or Flask) and familiarity with Airflow, PostgreSQL, and NestJS being nice to have.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
A proven ability to engage with customers and understand their needs is essential, and experience in AI is preferred.
