Oura is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Data Scientist to join their Science team.
This role focuses on building robust, scalable, and accurate physiological machine learning models from large-scale wearable and health datasets.
The position involves collaboration with cross-functional partners across product, software engineering, and testing teams to develop the next generation of Oura's health insights.
This is a remote US role with a slight preference for candidates based on the East Coast, although hybrid or office settings are available in San Francisco and San Diego.
Responsibilities include designing and developing scalable data generation pipelines, researching and implementing novel ML architectures, building scalable training pipelines, designing evaluation strategies for model performance, collaborating with various teams, and mentoring junior team members.
Requirements:
Candidates must have a PhD in machine learning, artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience (post-PhD) in applied ML within a product setting is required.
Hands-on experience in developing and deploying large time-series models, particularly those based on sequential physiological or wearable data, is essential.
Strong programming skills in Python and experience with cloud-based ML technologies (e.g., AWS, Github, Pytorch, Docker) are necessary.
A deep understanding of scalable ML workflows, including data pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and deployment to production, is required.
Candidates should be self-starters with strong collaboration and communication skills, thriving in cross-functional settings.
A background in physiology, health sensing, or digital biomarkers is a bonus.
Experience in shipping ML models in production environments and conducting real-world validation is also a bonus.
