The Staff Software Engineer - Backend role focuses on evolving the real-time messaging platform, improving core delivery, retry, and storage systems.
Responsibilities include writing clean, observable, and testable backend code, architecting and scaling backend systems, and leading re-architecture efforts.
The position requires collaboration with platform and SRE teams to ensure autoscaling, fault tolerance, and production readiness.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 7+ years of experience in backend engineering with proven experience in scaling systems with massive throughput.
Deep expertise in databases such as Firestore, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, and ClickHouse is required.
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, GCP (or AWS), and event-driven infrastructure is necessary.
A clear understanding of distributed systems principles, including CAP tradeoffs, consistency, rate limiting, retries, and idempotency, is essential.
Strong API and system boundary design skills in microservices ecosystems are required.
Candidates must possess crisp communication skills for technical leadership without posturing.
