The company is looking for a Staff Software Engineer in the United States.
The role involves building and optimizing high-impact features across a modern Ruby on Rails platform.
Responsibilities include writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code in Ruby on Rails, with some use of Python and TypeScript.
The engineer will lead architectural design and establish engineering best practices across projects.
Mentoring and supporting junior engineers through pairing sessions and code reviews is expected.
Collaboration with product, QA, actuarial, and insurance teams to deliver robust solutions is required.
The engineer will develop and maintain scalable APIs and contribute to event-driven system design.
Participation in daily standups, retrospectives, and technical planning is part of the role.
The engineer will contribute to the creation of technical roadmaps and long-term engineering strategies.
A minimum of 6 years of professional software engineering experience is required, with at least 5 years working with Ruby on Rails in a production environment.
Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases is necessary, with experience in NoSQL being a plus.
Experience in designing API-first, scalable applications is required.
Familiarity with event-driven architecture and AWS or Databricks data tools is preferred.
Proven experience mentoring team members and setting engineering standards is essential.
The candidate should be able to work autonomously with minimal technical direction.
Strong communication skills and the ability to justify technical decisions to stakeholders are necessary.
The candidate should be comfortable in a fast-paced, startup-style environment.
The position is fully remote, but the candidate must reside in or be able to work full-time from one of the 40 eligible U.S. states.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
